The Friends of Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park have the day-to-day care and management of London's most urban woodland - which is right on our door step (the main gate is in Southern Grove).
- They manage the park within the context of themes relating to heritage, wildlife, people and education.
- They aim to secure the future of the park as a place for biodiversity, learning and remembrance.
October Special Events
16th October 2011: Fungus foray @ 10am
Join Keir once again for this very popular, informative and enjoyable walk learning more about the fancy world of fungi.
30th October 2011: Deadly Scene Investigation@ 1pm to 3pm
In partnership with the BBC and the Live 'n' Deadly show on CBBC we're offering a drop in activity for families to take on the role of crime scene investigators to try and discover who broke into the nest box and ate the eggs.
Regular events each month
These are the regular events in Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park
Every Tuesday: Weekly ‘Drop in’ Volunteer day, 10am - 4pm
Come for all or part of the day. Find a job or task that suits you and your interests, and help the “Friends”, in caring for and developing Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park. The park has Local Nature Reserve status and is great place for both natural history and human history. The time and date of volunteering may vary so before your first visit please phone Ken on 07904 186 981.
1st Thursday of the Month, 7:30pm - 9:30pm: Friends of Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park committee meeting
Whether you’re considering to maybe join the committee or you just want to find out what’s discussed,
please feel free to join any one of the regular monthly meetings.
1st Sunday of the month, 10am - 4pm: Practical nature conservation project
Join us for the day helping to improve the park for wildlife and people. Projects are seasonal so each
month we carry out a different project. Gloves are provided along with refreshments, but please wear old
clothes, sturdy footwear and bring a packed lunch.
2nd Sunday of the month, 2pm - 4pm: Grave research
Join members of the Friends and of the East London History Society in recording grave inscriptions, and learn more about the ‘occupants’ of the Cemetery Park. Please note there is no guided walk on this day.
3rd Saturday of the month, 10:30am - 12:30pm: Bow Beasties wildlife watch club
For children aged 8 – 14 The Wildlife Watch Club takes place in the fabulous resource of the Cemetery Park, each month we do different activities to learn about wildlife
3rd Sunday of the month, 2pm - 4pm: Guided Walk
Have a guided tour of the park learning all about the burial and/or natural history.
NatWest Community Force Awards
The Friends of Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park have also entered the NatWest Community Force awards and need your vote to do well and maybe even win a grant for use in the Park.
