Cycle Superhighway: further works to Mile End Road

Transport for London now recognises MERA as a residents association that needs to be kept informed about all works to Mile End Road.

We've received word from Transport for London that works to introduce Barclays Cycle Superhighways Route 2 to Mile End Road and Bow Road, starting Wednesday 16 February.

This work includes upgrading the pedestrian crossing opposite the Central Girls’ School, meaning that the crossing will be suspended for up to 10 days, most probably in early March.

As a result of the complaint MERA made to both Tower Hamlets Council and to Transport for London, the letter to residents states categorically that all night-time working will cease by 11.30pm.

This will contrast with the Cycle Superhighway Works which took place between St Clements Hospital and Southern Grove where night-time working on Mile End Road disturbed local residents to gone 1am in the morning.  The noisy work done by Skanska until 1am on this section of the road contravened the agreed conditions for night-time working on Mile End Road.

However here in Mile End we are getting well used to conditions being laid down by statutory authorities and these being completely ignored by the contractors!
