Eastendhomes Site 10: Gas works in Brokesley Street |
This work is connected to the EastendHomes development being undertaken by Telford Homes although being undertaken by a utility. As such to our mind it's covered by the planning conditions for the development for hours of work and that relating to noisy work .
CONDITION 14 - Construction Hours Building works must only be carried out between 8am and 5pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 1pm on Saturday. No works can be carried out on Sunday or Bank Holidays unless agreed by Council in writing. However the worker concerned felt the need to wear ear defenders while using noisy machinery immediately outside 1-14 Brokesley Street to damp down and seal the tarmac which was laid before 8am. This photograph was taken a few minutes after 8am.
CONDITION 15 - Piling and Impact Breaking Hours: Hammer driven piling and impact breaking only to be carried out between the hours of 10am and 4pm. Not allowed on Sunday or Bank Holidays unless agreed by Council in writing
What a pity he didn't have similar consideration for the residents of Brokesley Street!
Today MERA will be:
- reporting this infringement of planning conditions to Tower Hamlets Planning Enforcement
- asking Tower Hamlets Planning why any of the utility works associated with this development are being allowed in advance of the approval of the Construction Management Plan
- asking Tower Hamlets Highways / Planning asking why permits to close streets are allowed which then lead to works before 8am.
- asking Transco why planned works (ie non-emergency works) are being done at anti-social hours.
